Three engines are available to Morton drivers on the Chevy Colorado. The 2.5-liter inline four-cylinder on the WT and LT trims, which outputs 200 horsepower and 191 pound-feet of torque and is tied to a six-speed automatic gearbox, do great for daily driving around the Washington, IL area. They also provide the best fuel efficiency numbers on the truck at an EPA-estimated 20/26 MPG city/hwy.

However, for a lot more muscle, spring for the larger 3.6-liter V6 engine, which is standard on the Z71 and ZR2 trims and produces 308 horsepower and 275 pound-feet of torque. In addition, the V6 is pinned to a smooth-shifting eight-speed automatic transmission.

If you go with the ZR2, you can opt for the 2.8-liter turbodiesel four-cylinder engine, which unlocks the Colorado's maximum towing capacity at best-in-class 7,700 pounds due to its 369 pound-feet of torque. Horsepower is rated at 181 horsepower, and it goes with the six-speed transmission.

Off-Roading Ability

Standard rear-wheel drive on the truck means that you get a balanced ride, with the engine in the front. However, if you want optimized all-weather driving performance, go with the all-wheel drivetrain, which is standard on the top-level ZR2. The Z71 and ZR2 stand out for their increased off-road capabilities.

The Z71 has an upgraded suspension, recovery hooks, a locking rear differential, and hill descent control. The ZR2 is an even more capable off-roader thanks to an upgrade to driver-selectable full-locking front and rear differentials and the addition of off-road rocker protection.

Exterior and Interior

The Chevy Colorado is available as a two-door Regular Cab, four-door Extended Cab, and four-door Crew Cab, with a Short Box or a Long Box. The Regular Cab has a single row of seats to accommodate the driver and a passenger; go for the Extended Cab if you need two rows of seats to accommodate up to four people or the Crew Cab for up to five.

Comfort and Convenience

The Chevy Colorado has received several changes to standard and optional equipment, thus making it a more robust pickup than ever before. Chief among such features is the Chevrolet Infotainment 3 system, which replaced MyLink not too long ago. This infotainment system includes Bluetooth® wireless technology, a six-speaker AM/FM stereo system, two USB ports, and Android Auto™ and Apple CarPlay® smartphone integration.

For a boost in infotainment, upgrade to at least the LT, which provides an eight-inch touchscreen, a trial subscription to SiriusXM Radio, HD Radio, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and two charging-only USB ports. The Z71 and ZR2 gain advanced features like remote start and wireless device charging for increased convenience.

Six airbags, a rearview camera, and Teen Driver mode are among the Chevy Colorado's standard safety features. To add driver-assistance features such as forward collision alert to help you avoid front-end crashes and lane departure warning to alert you when leaving your lane of travel without signaling, go with the LT model and higher. The Z71 and ZR2 trims gain rear parking sensors in addition to the rearview camera.
